Usage
Used in dyes and fine chemicals as an important intermediate for synthesizing acid dyes. The molecule contains both a tertiary amine structure and a sulfonic acid group — the sulfonic acid group confers water solubility and fiber affinity to the dye, while the tertiary amine serves as an important chromophore precursor. Primarily used in the synthesis of triphenylmethane and azo acid dyes, especially those requiring high water solubility and good dyeing fastness. This intermediate can also be used in the synthesis of surfactants and other functionalized aromatic compounds.
